Communications Committee Minutes
for October 1st, 2007
Meeting held at The Hideout, Fernwood, Idaho.
In attendance was Valdasue Steele, Richard Pullman, Rosemary Niemier, Fred
Niemier, Rhonda Wilks, Bill Crocker, Kay Tondee.
All agreed that minutes to be taken by Kay.
Agenda presented by Richard.
Review of Visioning Launch by Richard.
Discussion concluded that the focus of this committee would be to keep
people informed of all Upriver news, events, etc.
We need to look into mailing out the newsletter. Bulk mailing does not
allow for postcard size and the permit is for over 200 items. It was
mentioned that perhaps we should offer to e-mail the newsletter.
Richard has posted the Vision Rally news and will work on posting the
Visioning Launch.
To update the committee meeting news, it was suggested that we have
reporters attend the other meetings. Volunteers were as follows:
Entrepreneurial Development Commitee - Richard
Community Structure Commitee - Rosemary
Community Pride Commitee - Kay
Communications Commitee - post minutes
Discussion was held on how to expand the newsletter. Valdasue will go
through the Visioning Rally forms and retrieve e-mail addresses.
Rhonda noted the she would report in the St. Maries Gazette the new e-mail
address for the commitee after Richard sets one up.
We need to find out what our budget is so that we know what we will be able
to work with as well as what the bulk mailing rates are. Valdasue mentioned
that the Visioning Rally postcards were mailed to 730 homes in the Upriver.
We need to put in the next newsletter (October 2007) a request for a
response to find out who would prefer it mailed or e-mailed.
Up to now, the newsletter consists of one double sided sheet. Paper and
printing covered by Horizons (stored in Valdasue's office).
Richard suggested a walk through of html text writing for anyone interested
in helping with the upkeep of the website. Rosemary, Bill and Kay decided
to meet on Tuesday October 9th, 2007 at 11am at The Hideout.
Bill Crocker suggested that we put up a comment page to get response from
the public. It was noted that there will be a bulletin board up as well.
Valdasue mentioned that there will be a "How to Blog" course, put on by
Horizons in Moscow and Plummer. She would e-mail the details.
Rhonda suggested that we proof read all information published as she caught
a couple of mistakes and we lose credibility quickly this way.
Kay is to start working on history articles as she has the names of a couple
of locals to contact. Community Pride is looking to get the history page up
and running and the Entrepreneurial Development Commitee will be making use
of the business directory.
(Rhonda left meeting early)
Regarding the transportation, a rider board was discussed and it was noted
that the Fernwood Church was willing to make their bus available for
community services which would make it possible for many more to attend and
support local events eg. Family dance, October 27th; school halloween dance.
The rider board will be discussed at the next meeting and Valdasue offered
to make a sample of what it should look like. Richard to put on his "To Do"
list for the internet, the carpool board.
Rhonda needs all articles, that we would like published in the St. Maries
Gazette, by the preceding Sunday.
Rosemary to have a draft of the Upriver newsletter by the end of the week.
Richard to send notes to Rosemary.
Meeting finished 8:30pm.
