UpRiver Community News Letter
Up River Visioning Rally:Where will our communities be in the future? Get energized, inspired, and encouraged about our communities' future at our Up River Visioning Rally. Everyone is welcome. It will be held at 6:00-9:00 pm Wednesday September 12, 2007. Come for an evening packed with ideas, information and an opportunity to have your say about the future we are all creating for our great community.Recognition: Melissa Fuller of Emida was June's "Artist of the Month" at the St. Maries Art Gallery. An artist's reception was held June 9. The Upriver Saddle Club is holding their 46th annual Horse Show & Trail Classic on Saturday, August 4, 2007 and their 6th Annual O-Mok-See on Sunday, August 5, 2007. These three events will be held at the Upriver Saddle Club corral 1 mile west of Santa, Id on Hwy 3. For more information, check out their website at http://www.ursc.org/index.htm Emida Post Office: Cheri Carney is still collecting letters requesting an Emida Post Office, she only has 27 letters, needing 50. No form letters please, just a few sentences stating why you need an Emida Post Office. Something like "I have to go to St. Maries to get my mail" or "Thugs steal my mail from my mail box", etc. For more information contact Cheri Carney at 245-1031. Emida youth are holding a car wash on August 25th to raise money for the basketball court and other youth activities. Upriver United Action Committee Reports: UpRiver Cleanup: A big thanks to everyone who pitched in to clean-up our community on April 28th. Approximately 50 people showed up to clean from mile markers 59 to 70 on highway 3 and from 28 to 35 on highway 6. Approximately 250 bags of trash were picked up. The committee would like to make the last Saturday in April an annual "community clean-up day". The committee is considering a September clean-up day as well. There are no more committee meetings scheduled for this year. For more information call Beth Halverson 245-6726 or Joel Newsom 245-6843. Upriver Community United, Inc. The Non-Profit committee created the articles of incorporation for the new "Upriver Community United, Inc." organization. These articles are being filed with the Idaho Attorney General. Our next step is to create the By Laws for the new organization. For more information, call Debby Powell 245-3097 or Judy Turner 245-1050. Community Newsletter: More people are needed to help supply us with information and articles for our monthly newsletter. Contact Richard at 245-9183 if you are interested in contributing. The outlets to pick up a free copy of the newsletter and to give us your news for the next issue will be at the Drifters Cafe in Emida, Santa Post Office community board, the Tri-Community Library and the Mercantile reader board in Fernwood. Cell Tower Communications: This committee has not met but will be working to get cell phone service in the UpRiver area. When a meeting is scheduled it will be included in this newsletter. Community Center: This committee has been working with the county commissioners to try and do some work on the grounds around the CAF building in Fernwood and possible some interior renovations. For more information call Debby Powell 245-3097 or Chris Ashmead 245-3869. Transportation: This committee has not met but a carpool page will be set-up on the website. For more information call Valdasue Steele 245-2422. Signage: This committee has met and will be making Welcome to UpRiver signs to be located at point of entry into Emida, Santa Y, and Fernwood. For more information call Dale Hawkins 245-6980. Emida Basketball Court: The ground is all levelled and we have all the wood for the concrete forms. It needs to be laser leveled. The gravel is paid for and will be delivered. We are currently working to raise the money for the rest of the rebar. We already have the money for the concrete pour and are hoping to be done by the end of August. If you are interested in helping out contact Mandy Quincy at 245-2017. Everyone is encouraged to participate on the action committees, it is not too late to get involved and they are open to everyone. The more people who participate the better! Leadership Course: The Leadership Plenty classes wrapped up in May and there were enough participants to keep UpRiver in the Horizons program - congratulations and thanks to everyone who turned out for the classes! The next step for our community is the Community Visioning Rally that is scheduled for September 12, from 6 - 9 pm. The Horizons Steering Committee is in the process of planning the details but a community dinner will be a part of the activities that evening. We need as many community members there as possible so please mark your calendars now. David Buerle from Australia will be leading the rally. You will be hearing a lot more about this in next month's issue. ***Those who would like to submit newsworthy items for the News Letter- drop off areas will be the Tri-Community Library in Fernwood or the Drifters Cafe in Emida.*** |
